Greetings From Delhi!

Arrive Delhi!
Well Dame Judi Dench, you have a lot to answer too!
After watching the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel I was primed ready to arrive at an airport where we would be bombarded by masses of people, confusion and strange looking forms of transport to transfer you to your hotel. I must say Delhi airport is beautiful! Exceptionally sleek, spotless and we effortlessly guided through arrivals and luggage collection. I was a little nervous that our driver wouldn’t be there, but Gadventures proved themselves a worthy company to deal with yet again. We travelled to Vietnam about 18 months ago in a small group organised through ‘g’ and were very happy, so didn’t think twice about who to go through this time. This trip is done as independent travel and not in a group, so we have a driver/guide, booked accommodation and entry into the Taj Mahal. Other times we can choose where to go and what we want to cover. We will be visiting, Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra on this leg the we are heading to Varanasi for another independent tour. I am really keen to see the Ganges and the cultural/religious ceremonies that go with it.
It was great arriving at our ’boutique’ hotel, ‘The Grand Vikalp’. Located right near the ‘M-Block’ once settled we were able to walk into the shopping area, wonder at all the armed guards protecting the jewellers, ogle some magnificent fabric stores and generally absorb that great feeling you get when you are exploring something new! So much better than the insulated experience when based at 5 star. We decided to get some dinner and after three times around the block we opted for the Tandoori Restaurant, good choice! Clean, attentive and the food was great, just can’t get enough if good garlic naan bread! The couple of extra strong Kingfisher beers went down a treat too! Back to the room (which was gradually losing that smell of cigarettes) to work out priorities of where to visit tomorrow. We are keen to get some carpets for our ‘new old house’, so will see how we go.
I’m not at all a good shopper at the best of times and when there is so much to choose from I tend to get panicky and not do anything. Might have a challenge to face here I think! Tomorrow we head off to Agra and to see the Taj Mahal. Can’t wait to get to a spot where I can actually make some sense of these photos and edit a few posts!
